Malaysian Visit Highlights Progress and Challenges in BARMM Peace

 
 

IDB Headquarters, Cotabato City – On 11 December 2024, Malaysian officials held a meeting with the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) in its headquarters in Cotabato City, BARMM. This meeting underscored the international community’s continued support for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) peace process.

During the visit, the Malaysian delegation was welcomed by the IDB Vice Chairman William Hovland. The Malaysian delegates expressed their admiration for the peaceful environment in the region, citing their positive experiences at Camp Abubakar and Camp Badr. They acknowledged the significant strides made in the peace process and commended the efforts of all parties involved.

The Malaysian officials also raised important questions regarding the welfare of deceased combatants and the ongoing monitoring of the peace agreement. These discussions highlighted the international community's keen interest in ensuring the sustainability of the peace process and the well-being of the BARMM's population.

In response, IDB officials reiterated the organization's commitment to supporting the BARMM peace process. They emphasized the importance of continued dialogue, cooperation, and understanding among all stakeholders to maintain peace and stability in the region.

The visit concluded with a positive outlook, with both sides expressing optimism about the future of the BARMM.
