A Boost for Peace Efforts: IDB Vice Chairman Visits Mindanao
Cotabato City, Philippines – The Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) reaffirmed their commitment to the peace process during a recent meeting in Cotabato City. The meeting focused on discussing the progress of the decommissioning process and exploring potential avenues for moving forward with the remaining phase.
On 9 October 2024, the IDB held meeting with Engr. Mohajirin Ali, MNSA – MILF Peace Implementing Panel Head of Secretariat whereby the MILF reiterated its unwavering support for the decommissioning process and emphasized the importance of addressing security-related concerns to ensure a peaceful environment for the transition. The IDB, in turn, expressed its continued commitment to providing technical and logistical support to the process.
The next day, the IDB paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of the Province of Maguindanao del Norte, Honorable Abdulrauf Macacua to discuss the current progress in decommissioning process. The meeting underscored the ongoing collaboration between the IDB and the stakeholders in working towards a lasting peace in Mindanao. As the decommissioning process enters its final stages, both parties remain optimistic about the prospects for a more secure and prosperous future for the Bangsamoro region.
As the decommissioning process nears its conclusion, the optimism expressed by both parties suggests a promising future for the Bangsamoro region. The successful completion of this phase will be a significant step towards achieving lasting peace and stability in Mindanao.
